A love letter to a friend

Sometimes friends need space to grow, distance to reflect, solitude to appreciate. Plus, you really f*****g upset me, I need some time away, and you need to think about how you treat your loved ones

My darling, my love, I miss you.

How sad it is without you
Our desperate midnight calls
Last minute trips across the country into each others arms

Hot noodles and wine to share.
Without you I am so empty.

So alone.
You, my anchor always.

And yet, for now, we must part.

My insides quake.

My stomach flips and quivers like I lost a lover.
That sickness,
No food, no medicine can quell.
My mind a jumbled knot of all the words I want to speak.

And yet those words will not form.

Sentences, sentiment crumble to dust in my throat

With every urge to share a thought, send you a song I know you'll love

Be the support I know you need

Fury and indignation stops me.
Without your guiding light,
Your warm embrace,
A cradle to catch, the stream pours from my fingers into the void.

So we must leave each other cold.

I must be my own cradle
Be that steady anchor
For the violent rush
The turbulence which quakes me.

To lie still.
At peace. At silence. At rest.
To not fly away,
Into a million pieces.
To not drift away at sea,
On our fallen tears.

All bubbles of laughter between us have lost their fizz, my love.
We wait in each others wings, no longer.
As instead we emerge, onto our own stage, the star.

Until we meet again.
