Crimes of honesty

Crimes of honesty

A Poem by anartao

The proverbial fleece that once covered just eyes it appears has migrated to tongues,

truth has been censored and sentences passed on the basis of what’s birthed from lungs

The leaders we’re handed do naught but mislead, with semantics both slippery and sly,

whilst the lessons we teach to our children can lead to a cell if they choose to comply

Orwellian terms and descriptions abound in this bastardisation of speech,

the corruption of meaning will further remove our reality far beyond reach

Knowledge is power, but cannot exist without means to express and convey,

and subverting the methods through which it’s obtained kills the question till we all obey

Truth is held hostage by those held accountable, in itself another linguistic mirage,

when those we elect have elected for silence we bid honesty bon voyage,

we see double speak and the emptiest terms dressed and clothed in the finest of robes,

yet nothing substantial is found underneath, just manure as far as one probes

The importance of language and information is paramount in defining ourselves ,

and attempts to distort and control how it flows will corrupt us wherever it delves,

when truth is in shackles and honesty chained what future is now manufactured ?

A world where our means to define has grown stunted, and understanding becomes fractured
