Old friend

Old friend

A Poem by anartao

Hello old friend, I see you there

standing quiet by the end of the bed

A face once feared now welcome sight,

open arms where once there lay dread

I have waited for you for many a month

as my eyes fade, and my body it aches

This tenuous link, that I once held so tight,

with your hands I will hopefully break

I long to slough off this tattered garment

with its brittle frame of bones,

and cast off this mantle of weariness

and these years that weigh like stones

I long to see those who reside in my heart,

those who've travelled before by your side,

those who have left me behind in this world

like a pool that remains from the tide

Come forward brother, and please take my hand,

for the drum beats inside's growing quiet,

and let us go forward to dance on the wind,

and once more become one with the light
