Deaths poemA Poem by anartao
You speak my name in whispers, and act as though i don't exist,
yet no-one will miss my embrace, and not one face is left un-kissed I'm the face of a new chapter, and your lives once all's stripped bare I bring you home after your journey, and all that leave enter my care My function is as natural as the sunrise every morn Each and every name is known to me from the second you are born I've watched you crawl out of the sea, and leave behind the cave I've taken kings and paupers, both the cowards and the brave I've stood in the furnace at Dresden, watched as fire fell from the sky, watched men and buildings blackened, gasping as their lungs went dry I've comforted small children shivering on the showers tiles, collecting what the gas set free, those tender life exiles I've watched the billowing mushroom of a punishment extreme, the lowly hanging once again for the riches failed dream I've witnessed massacres in Rwanda, Armenians swept up in hatreds flood, the Middle East and Europe, watched as both were bathed in blood I've seen indigenous people slaughtered, those who understood my role, their messages extinguished in the quest for land you stole Billions spent on killing whilst hearts are hardened through your greed Killing off the earth around you, as if of it you have no need All the money spent to halt my call, as if its a race that can be won A pause in the inevitable once that hour glass has run So for all the fear you feel for me that drives so much you do, it's misguided and misplaced, for what you ought to fear is you
