The wounded heart

The wounded heart

A Poem by anartao

If the pain of love would have you turn your back and walk away
If the fear of black within the white would have you live in grey
If the thorns below the petals would have you forgo such a scent
If the fear of barbs within your heart means the truth you don't present
If you fear the pain that travels side by side with love
do you also fear the hail when watching blue skies up above ?
Do you never start a meal for fear of taking that last bite ?
Do you never gaze at beauty in fear of one day losing sight ?
Do you never start a journey for fear of misfortune on the way ?
Do you fear the dark of night when your surrounded by the day ?
Will you let your fear of pain cripple legs that want to run ?
Will you live a life in shadows you spend scowling at the sun ?
Just remember that the journey, not the outcome, is what counts,
and just like herbs and spices pain can flavour in amounts
So open yourself up to love, make your heart no home for fear
Let loves passion be so great you would shed both blood and tears
Gladly should you suffer any wounding in loves name
And even though you are consumed you're smiling through the flames
