A place of sun and beaches that is known around the world
Yet a shadow lies across the land caused by a flag unfurled
A history that is hidden for it spoils the perfect view
The coat of white paint fails to hide the black that still shows through
Attitudes that times gone by should be left in the past
An easy road to walk down when with victors you are classed
We riot against minorities we feel don’t fit this countries way
Oh how short the memories of those who came to stay
Barely disguised contempt and talk of bludgers, drunks and thieves
Our high horse of hypocrisy, on which we duck and weave
A culture fed into the flames of a Darwinian way of thinking
Our foundations built on lies and sand, and we wonder why we’re sinking
The red earth quietly reminds of the blood that has been spilt
White minds turn away from that on which their empire’s built
Life should be observed through eyes that are kept open wide
For truth is light and in its shine nowhere can shadows hide
Recognition does not mean that guilt should surely follow
A son to bear the fathers cross i know is hard to swallow
But we need to pass the polygraph we face from our own soul
Admit this land on which we live we originally stole
Its just the first step taken on the path to equal rights
Acceptance, truth and tolerance we all need in our sights
And like the she-oaks sighing from the time of the first death
The pain will stay until as one this nations draws a breath
