What Remains?

What Remains?

A Poem by Ananya Upadhyay

Oceans dry up, lands drift
Seasons come and go, sands shift.
Among the fleeting stars, the transient suns.
Amidst celestial forces, that yet are uncertain,
The divine creator, is what remains.

Not the noble deeds, not the vicious crimes.
Neither eclipses of sorrow nor the glimpses of joy.
No, for fancy faces or a beguiling body.
Also not the amorous passion or the hostile times.
The true self, is what remains.

In an ephemeral world, do we really have anything that remains till the end of time? From the time of conception of life till the time of transgression to another world, do we constantly evolve or do we carry at least something permanent?

Divine nature builds our structure. It gives to everyone his share of unique features. In his life span, man acquires different moods, different desires, dreams, qualities, forms and features which make it seem he's changing. But the genetic core, remains unchanged. The attributes of this true core, show themselves in varying intensities and at different times so man is never able to find out his own true self.
However, during all ages, in the roots of all events, lies the latent real core, good and bad. Something which is difficult to discover and if discovered, difficult to contain. It ostensibly makes a presence, whether the carrier realizes or not.

Does that mean my achievements are not the fruits of my efforts but a blessing of nature?
Do we blame the core for our shortcomings? Do we shift the blame of our mishaps to nature? Do we just give in?

No.
We learn to identify it.
We learn to understand it.
We try to find the conditions that enable the core to make its presence.
Times when the good part shows, are the qualities and conditions we need to create in ourselves and around us. Times when the bad part shows, are the qualities and conditions we need to avoid in ourselves and around us. The core wouldn't function well in unknown territories. So, the moment you subject it to a different atmosphere, you feel what we call 'change', which depending on the carrier, can be good or bad.

We cannot change what nature endows us with but we can, and we should, control all that. Why only should the core control us, why can't we instead tame the core and use the very same to our improvement?

The core, the real truth, that which always remains, is within you. No penance or blind worldly search for truth is going to help you find that unless you look deep down into YOU. Change comes from within you, not from external forces around you.

You will indeed always be invincible and forge ahead. It's just so tough to keep up. One needs to accept you'll always be better, a writer and apparently a person. The more layers you peel, the more interesting things get.

I love the title of your poem. Very intriguing!
And for the piece you write Kudos Girl! This one is a real deep, though-provoking poetry I must say.
Can totally resonate with the line- "The core, the real truth, that which always remains, is within you."
I love how you have expressed yourself. Look forward to more of your work. Keep up the good job :)
