Insatiable, Libidinous Appetite of Human BeastA Chapter by Anantha NarayananMy views on the recent brutal rape and murder of Kerala Law student JishaThe daybreak of 17 Dec 2012 awakened the nation with the news reports of the previous night's brutal gang rape of a girl student, in a moving bus, in the Capital city. What the globe witnessed hereafter in the succeeding days, weeks and a few months (unlike assaults till the date) literally placed the Largest Democracy in an inescapable chagrin before the rest of the world. Media around the globe 'Eulogised and Commended' Delhi with the sobriquet 'The Rape Capital of India'. After countless outcries and furore, from the length and breadth of the nation, for Justice, the Upper and Lower Parliamentarians in concordance brought forth a 'Brand New' Bill by amending the existing Criminal Law which later got the assent of The President and came into force on 3 April. Hurrah, it is here at last!!! The nation at its entirety applauded the action and welcomed the newly aggrandised Act (Action, Conviction, Triumph of Justice) of Nirbhaya-The Assured Pathway to Justice. What else do we need? We have a strong judiciary and here is the newly added power of it. Our Mothers, Sisters, Daughters and even Grandmothers (as they are not spared too) will be safe and will have true justice hereafter. We saw it as:- N-nation's I- immediate R-reforms to B-bring H-hell on A-assaulters in the Y-years A-ahead But did it change anything? How many more rapes came into light after that? Did any of the victims clearly see at least a ray of Justice? Did any of the assaulters get the punishment they deserved? Did the upgraded law bring Hell on them??? The answer is a big NO. It rather brought to them Heaven, in disguise of Indian Prisons by, protecting the rapists from the fury of public. The safe havens for brutal assaulters, sponsored by authority. It goes on unchecked and even stronger. Every fresh morning brings an array of fresh Rape News. Rapes in new places. Rapes in new styles. Rapes in new guises. But one thing remains the same- The punishment( seems like a Reward??). It is still in the good old style- either a short term imprisonment or a fair amount of money as fine and finally the State's Burden- a counselling drama to 'Re-civilise and Rehabilitate, to bring back to life the lost citizen. At last, one more shocking and disturbing news came into light on April 28, 3 years after the enforcement of Nirbhaya Act. One more victim of the Insatiable, Libidinous Appetite of Human Beast. Now seeing the ongoing political drama, the media celebrations and the CRIES for her Justice, I have only one thing to say which I saw in her Name she left back. J-justice in I-India still S-stands H-hardly A-attainable © 2016 Anantha Narayanan |
