Life Changing Liver Transplant Surgery of Brian in IndiaA Story by Anan AdisaPlan your LIVER TRANSPLANT SURGERY with Top Liver Transplant Surgeons & Hospital in India at an affordable rate.My name is Brian; my liver transplant took place on August 12, 2018. Aside from the date of my birth, it's the most important day of my life. Immediately following my transplant I felt I was the luckiest man on earth. Months later I still felt I was nationally ranked. This story is about my illness, liver transplant experience, and my recovery in India. 5 years ago, my doctor noticed I was suffering from as-cites, the accumulation of fluid in my body core, most likely a result of a malfunctioning liver. It was not adequately filtering my bodily fluids and blood. He suggested having my esophagus "scoped" to determine if pressure was building in my veins. I ignored his advice and life went on, sort of it was until the day I passed out. A vein had ruptured in my esophagus. I could have bled to death, but luckily my daughter called the paramedics and the doctors were able to seal off the vein below the rupture. The message was clear. I had a serious liver problem. I went to a highly reputable hospital in Chicago, but my disease continued to progress. My as cites continued to worsen as my liver function deteriorated. Finally the doctors at the Chicago hospital decided I had NASH (nonalcoholic steatohepititis). In spite of their diagnosis, I was not happy with my care or the level of service. One day a friend of mine stopped by. He told me I looked very ill, that how my friend suggested me to look for other option out of my home country, since liver transplant was the only permanent solution, I started looking for possible options and learnt that the success rate for liver transplants done here in Chicago was very low. I began looking into all of the possible options. The insurance company I am with through my employer made it clear that they would not cover the cost of the treatment at all. After thorough research and several recommendations, I learned surgery in India is comparable to best the world. Then, I decide to Google “liver transplant tourism package” and I discovered a company called forerunners healthcare provides a complete travel package which includes not only flights and hotels, physician appointment and blood test.I began communicating with executive of forerunners healthcare to find out more. I spoke to the executive and asked him to put me in contact with former clients who could tell me about their experiences. I talked to one and his story boosted my confidence in the company, and the following week, I went ahead and scheduled my trip. I traveled to India in late 2015 for the life saving surgery. At our first meeting, my wife and I met with nine or 10 doctors and staff members, one-on-one. They accepted me as a patient and assigned a transplant coordinator to me, and said they would consider me for addition to the list. To my joy, things progressed. I had to wait until my number came up .I didn't have to wait that long. On Friday August 12, the phone rang at 1:30 am. The coordinator of forerunners healthcare asked if I can come in India. I said yes, of course. She said, "We have a liver for you." After I arrived to India at 6 am, that morning I met the surgeons, the anesthesiologists, and the nurses, and was put on an IV around 12:30 pm. The next thing I remember was awaking in the ICU. It was nearly 7 pm. Besides some discomfort below my ribs, I told the doctors I felt fine, but a little tired. I had a good time. That may sound strange, but everything went so well. There were always nice people to talk with - the doctors, the nurses and assistants, lab technicians, pharmacists, social workers, everybody. I have enjoyed an added benefit. Prior to surgery I was a Type 2 diabetic taking four insulin shots daily. I still test three or four times a day. Rarely is my blood sugar out-of-range. I don't take insulin shots or oral medication anymore.
I am much stronger and do everything on my own without much help from others. I am very happy about how everything was handled by forerunners healthcare consultant and that everything worked out perfectly. If I wouldn’t have chosen to travel to India with forerunners healthcare consultant, as they offered information about the treating doctors’. Forerunners healthcare works with each patient based on his or her unique cultural, social, and economic needs for medical travel.
