The Painted Face

The Painted Face

A Poem by Anamaria

I wear this cheerful mask

A colorful bright façade

To cover the broken spirit

That cowers and hides beneath

The tendrils of darkness coil

And choke out the once bright light

But no one can see the struggle

Behind the pretty painted face

And so that life continues

The asphyxiated bliss

When the soul cries out for help

But is muffled by the smile

The artistry is seamless

But it only takes a crack

For it to all come rushing out
