The Pent-up Girl

The Pent-up Girl

A Story by Adri Adityo Wisnu

A long time ago there was a young and pretty girl. She was raised in a wealthy family, sheltered under the roof of a big manor. Yet her life was not a happy one.

She lived under a total control of his father. She was engaged to marry the son of his father's business partner since she was twelve, and was forced to live out the rest of her adolescent days in a seclusion of the mansion. Her father see it as a safety precaution to prevent her daughter to meet and fall in love with somebody else, hence broke off the engagement.

Carrying a heavy burden on her shoulders, she chose to take in easy way out. She threw herself out of her bedroom on the second floor. She landed on the side of her head to the pavement below, violently breaking her neck to one side. To this day, the manor still stands, derelict and abandoned. Some passerby claims that sometimes at night, they could see a woman standing by second floor window, weeping silently.

She has long black hair, her eyes were dark blue, staring blankly at whoever passes by the manor. As a result of her jump and a broken neck, her head bend at an unnatural angle and seemingly permanently rest on one side.

"Leave me alone." The girl's spirit pleaded weakly, and she plunge down to the ground below without any sounds of her hitting the pavement that follows. This scene keeps repeating night after night for god knows how long.
