Like a Bride

Like a Bride

A Poem by anagrace1929
"

I know you loved him, But you loved him to death, And I loved him like life itself.

"
I know you loved him,
But you loved him to death,
And I loved him like life itself.
__________________________
So your pain does not compare.
To that, I'll keep a locket of his hair,
That you loosened, and I cut free,
By virtue of being there.
__________________________
And I will not spite his grave,
By daring to show my face,
But when you flee, I'll lie,
Like I longed to do in life,
With him at my side,
Forever, like a bride.

Beautiful emotional writing. Enjoyed reading

Spare but powerful, this one. Has the sound of one who came out second in the contest for the departed's affections. There is bitterness here, but also a certain consolation in having been the vessel of true love. Really liked the conciseness and the power of the words.
