For what is true

For what is true

A Poem by Amy T.

one.

how do you know

that when people talk to you they’re not lying

that someone’s smile is genuine and not a mask

that praise is true and not purposeful flattery

how can you surround yourself with people

if you know they can be deceitful

but not know the difference

two.

how can you be so sure

that when he says he loves you he truly means it

that while you’re together his eyes are only on you

that it’s not an intentional act for someone else

how can you unlock the secrets of your heart

if you know they can be betrayed

but not know by who

but then again

zero.

how can you say for certain

that you actually exist on this world of ours

that life’s not just a fanciful meaningless illusion

that what you see feel touch hear taste is real

how can you go about your business normally

if it’s possible we’re not here at all

but not know that’s true
