A Rude (and favorite) Awakening

A Rude (and favorite) Awakening

A Poem by Amy Sese

"

What you didn’t realize

was that you’d come into a world of new possibilities.

By acting instead of reacting

you found less to be “impossible”.

What you didn’t realize

was that you’d meet your catalysts
by simply allowing yourself to acknowledge who you truly were,

and were willing to share all of who you were.

What you didn’t know

was that you’d undeniably be one,
because shame and fear were overpowered by trusting

someone.

What you overlook

is how much attitude is contagious.
What you underestimate

is how your indirect service directly affects someone,

period.

What you don’t grasp

is that those who point out your faults

will shake you awake.

And, those who applaud your strengths

will empower your today.
Who you’ll note are those who do both

and bring out the best in you.

What you’ll battle is no matter how great your intentions are,

there will be those who will still doubt your motives.
You’ll come to find that as long as you’re true to your character,
you cannot and will not be swayed, regardless.

What may have taken you by surprise

was that you’d stumble with great strides.

You’ll finally get that every notion you take matters,
and eventually learn size cannot be measured.

You’ll grow when you understand the world is yours to shape.
You’ll
love, because you can.
And, whether or not you choose to,
your capability isn’t what’s in question.

You’ll realize the world simply wants you to come alive,
and the only thing that separates “you” from “them” is motivation.
You’ll notice strength in varie
ty,
and recognize the benefit once you accept that finding.

You’ll catch yourself bending over backwards
to maximize your flexibility,
struggling to know your limits.
You’ll be challenged to define your boundaries
to only realize passion doesn’t surround
itself with any.

You’ll question the difference between “work” and “service”,
until you decide that your sole purpose is to just DO
with full force of determination...
to fulfill your mission.
to question, but not doubt.
to shatter the boundaries of resistance.
to stumble, but not completely fall.
to have your intentions and actions be in congruence.
to know resilience, inside and out.
to share your highest self.
