Try It.

Try It.

A Poem by Amy Sese

"

Reliability.
Take a quick second
to consider the definition.
You’ll define it by the acts of everyone you’ve witnessed,
except for yours.
Maybe once,
step outside of your comfort zone.
Step in the shoes of the eyes watching over you.
Maybe once more,
consider your demeanor.
We study your meaning by your character.
The way you move"
your lips.
your hands.
If they reach out"
to help.
or, for help.
On a daily.
We study.
Your words"
if they have depth to their meaning.
if there’s strength to your stance.
if you actually speak with honesty.
Or, if they’re being spit out to satisfy,
because you only had a moment’s notice
to decide your side.
Because you don’t allow your thoughts to wander aimlessly
to know where your heart is.
On the daily.
Because you won’t allow yourself to live actively in a world spinning,

with or without you.
Initiate"
to remove yourself, if need be...
when need be.
to not sleep your days away.
to not deteriorate.
to not feel like there’s no turning back now.
Take a second.
And, turn.
Initiate"
to help those reaching out for help.
to ask, instead of waiting to be asked.
to not be afraid of fear.

to change lanes when there’s an exit.

to reroute with the unexpected.

Initiate.
Pay mind.
Look up.
You’ll notice eyes staring down in an attempt to avoid the topic,

to avoid the question at hand.
Look up at them.
Pay close attention.
You’ll notice you were one of them.
Strive for eye contact.
Strive for fear.
Think for yourself.
Speak up.
It challenges you.
Shape your world"
to be reliable.
to trust the unknown,
because you have those around you
who you can trust.
Return the favor.
Be that for them.
Be that someone

for you.
Learn to rely on yourself.
Learn the value of dependability
to relieve others of the weight.
Educate yourself on"
priorities.
morals.
work ethics.
your own responsibility...
to society,
to yourself.
It goes hand-in-hand.
Imagine everyone were to do that.
It becomes a chain reaction.
Try it.
