Animal Pieces

Animal Pieces

A Poem by Amy Sese
"

2009

"
Slice your victim by the throat,
choke 'em by the feet.
Make the blood rush to their head
until they drown unconsciously
in the taste of their own meat.
Give 'em a taste of their last breath---
a simple taste of reality,
reasons why they're not a friend
and just how they got so lucky.
Share that taste of delicious death.
Show the taste of good old humanity.
Let 'em know exactly what it is to be helpless,
restrained,
and apart from being free.
Just what it means to live in complete distress,
to understand it's "survival of the fittest",
and not to take it personally,
because it's nothing more or nothing less.
Crave the damaged work
of someone else's masterpiece.
Drool over the sounds of last sizzling screams.
Fill your lungs with the scent of flaming flesh.
And afterward, gnaw at your pathetic success.
Chew away their pain,
swallow what used to live,
and now, only deteriorates in the brain.
...what a great gain you've made.
Convince yourself they have no family---
no instinct to value life.
no desire for warmth or comfort from the sunlight.
Convince yourself their heart doesn't drop with tears
at the sight of their own future.
Then, force them to believe it is the only answer.
It's something beyond the power of love.
Out of control of the heavens from above.
Convince everyone else it's been for the greater good...
for the satisfaction of your own pleasure.
Something that nothing else would or could measure up to.
Inconvenience for the weak follows in a chain reaction,
a domino effect...
at the expense of your taste buds' satisfaction.
