Prayers for no PrayersA Poem by amy gavroIn response to the terrorist attack in New Zealand today, 3/15/2019, that target our Muslim brothers and sisters.
I know religion is a good thing.
That it can be. I know it can comfort and soothe a grief stricken body. That it can provide answers to questions we all wish we knew. That it can be a community of commitment and serving each other. It can be good. But when did it become so thirsty? Why does it seek souls and blood and blind following? I know rhetoric can vary. That sects can dilute the holy water and taint it. That people can twist something good and make it a terrorist attack. But if any sort of religion leads to this, Maybe it all should go. If there are the acts that stem from a holy branch, the tree needs to be cut down. To get rid of religion? An impossible thing, I know. It's embedded in our DNA, that is, according to where we are born. But I've lost my religion, And I'm still a good person. A better person, actually. So I know that it's possible to weed out. I believe that we would be a better race. If this wasn't a race at all. To be the best, the most religious, the holiest. It's such a tragic disgrace.
