You don't know me

You don't know me

A Poem by Ashley Myers

You think you know me;

Every part of me.

Even the me that I don't see.

You know me like the back of your hand,

or like the sunday hymnal book

from front to back.

Well, if you knew me,

You'd know that I'm broken.

You words tear me down,

And you're hand kills my soul.

You take the breath from my being;

But you don't know me.

If you knew me,

You'd know that I sit up at night and cry,

and how I secretly beg you for affection.

You'd know my quirks, my ins and outs,

But you cant even tell me what I live for

Because you don't know me.

If you knew me,

You'd know I'm sensitive,,

And your words cut me like a knife.

You'd know my hearts' desires,

And you'd stand beside me and hold my hand,

But you don't know me.

If you took the time to know me,

you might love me.

Hearing those three words means nothing.

It's your actions that tell me I'm an accessory.

I'm unique, individualized, I'm me...

But you don't know me

You're missing out on me.

The things I can offer you,

You want no part of.

You brush me off and walk away

When I beg for you to listen

I'm trying to show you me.

But I'm done pretending I don't care.

It's your loss not mine.

someday I will mean something to someone.

It could have been you

You could have had me...

But you chose not to know me.

I like the raw emotion and pain and resentment of this peice. It's so honest and true to you and many other people. I connected with it right off the bat. That's a vital part of this, connecting and seeing that you can touch other people. You are very adept at putting a constant emotion throughout your poem. You don't jump around or move suddenly to different subjects. You did mix up "you're" and "your", but that's a simple fix. I enjoyed this poem very much. Thank you for sharing it with me.

The sorrow screaming from this poem is profound. The longing for acceptance, but knowing no one truly understands shows how superficial people can truly be, Everyone has the answers but no one knows the problem. I really like this piece for 2 major reasons: 1: it relates well to people who are often misunderstood (your's truly :-) ), and second because its a message to the superficial ones. It says, "Stop judging me and look at me for me not through your expectations of me." I like the rhythm it kinda emplores a recitation, and it helps you become entranced in the poem. Excellent over all poem and a favorite read.

No they'll never get it until your gone.
Then they'll come back when they're bored. Just gotta know when to say when.

Wow. This is amazing. Every word cuts like a knife, whoever that person was, they definitely have lost! I really like this.
