You

You

A Poem by pterodactyl

My postpartum body doesn't feel
quite the same.
The skin I was used to
has loosened ever so slightly
in the strangest of ways.
My belly,
once a home
for you;
I have the scars
and stretch marks to prove it.
My stomach easily bloats
and my breasts are no longer mine-
they belong to you too.

What else have you taken from me?
My sleep,
precious sleep-
Oh, how it eludes me now.
My hair
Has become frail
Thinning more each passing day.
Time,
Though never quite mine,
is even yours now too.

What have you given me?
An appreciation for life,
Love, Purpose and reason
A title: Mom
Strength that I never knew

Yes, you have taken from me-
And can take anything you need.
I'd give to you
all of me.
Because you have given me
Everything.
My world;
My sweet baby girl
