A Chapter by Amy Cowan

I think it is night time, but I cannot be sure. I am not tired so maybe it must be the time of year when the clocks go back or forward. I never really understood the time changes, they mixed me up. There is footsteps coming from the end of the hallway and they are getting closer and closer. Should I pretend I am asleep? The footsteps are getting louder and I am holding my breath hoping the person shall not know where I am. I hear a women shouting, she is trying to stop the person coming towards the door. She's shouting “no Daniel, leave her here, Let her be free.” The footsteps stop and the man, Daniel touches the door knob. He turns it with no luck. He then knows he needs a key. He bends down and looks in at my room.  He is looking for something or someone. That someone may be me. I am sitting in the corner hidden from the door with my head in my knees trying not to make a sound. Daniel starts whispering but I cannot hear him.  He is talking to another person but it is not that women from the other night. I can hear her being dragged away from the corridor, her finger nails are digging into the walls as she goes. Someone is taking her and they are taking me next. "Little girl, little girl come here," said Daniel. I am looking round to see an eye peering through the keyhole at me. "Do you remember me," he said even louder. I am crawling over to talk to him, telling myself to be brave as I move. Just as I start moving I hear more people running up the corridor towards Daniel.  Bang! The door has come flying down on top of me. My vision is going foggy and I am trying to stay awake. The last thing I see is Daniels face looking at me. Everything starts to dissolve and fade away around me until I am no longer there.

Gives you a different point of view that maybe the real hero here is her captor and not the man who seems so heroic in previous chapters. Nice twist!
