Rescue

Rescue

A Poem by Amy Selena

Let the volume climb higher

As I escape the gates of hell

Let the sun shine brighter

As I forget the pain I wish to tell

Reality fades into a dream

The deafening silence begins to break

Everyone here is make believe

Your pleading lies keep me awake

It’s a bright shiny morning

The waves crash over the shore

Salt air dances in my lungs

Grains of sand tangled in my hair

Sounds of laughter

And children at play

The sky here is brighter

A mother calls for Jasey Rae

Two paths unwind before me

The first is Reality

The second is Reverie

I choose the second, hoping for peace

The journey is anxious to begin

I walk to the sound of the waves

With a steady rhythm and new confidence

I take in high spirits of the day

The sun lowers onto the horizon

It paints the sky with streaks of red

Composed of beauty and tranquility

Where Reality and Reverie somehow meet

The single path leads me to the water’s edge

But the temperature begins to drop

Memories swim through my head

Taunting me that I’ll never forget

The cold numbs the pain, consumes me

As a movement appears above the surface

My cries of rescue are silenced by the sea

Shaking, overwhelmed by your presence

You can’t hear a thing

The isolation, the fear

The water becomes darker

As I fall

            deeper,

                      fall

                           deeper.

Amazing, this can be interpreted in so many ways. I love the last line of the last stanza, it contains so much I feel like reading this gave me the opportunity to experience the journey you've been through within this poem. Not to mention, the imagery is astounding. Great work.
