EternityA Poem by Amy SelenaFalling
Not a soul to catch me
Blackness
Steals an eternity
The ghost of your smile
Whispers to my dreams
Haunts me in my sleep
Leaves me wandering in these lies
Struggling to float above a sea of blue
A vulnerable memory drifts across the abyss
An unforgettable bond sinks to the ocean floor
As I catch of glimpse of its reflection:
Us
A cold breeze says hello
Sweeps me off the glimmering water
Away from the blue
Away from you
A shaken voice
Shattered and raw
My heavy heart
Begins to thaw
Visions of your eyes lost at sea
I’m at home in the clouds
Greeted by steady breathing
While slivers of moonlight penetrate closely above
I stand on top of the world
Looking out below the winding roads
And across the frozen waters
Hopeful not to fall into its deadly catch
Yet the starry night shines in contrast
Casting silver rays upon the heavens
My dreams are free at last
Flying freely in a perfect paper airplane
But it’s a dangerous flight
Driven by isolation and fear
And little did I know that tonight
From the depths of the sea, your spirit would appear
A rush of warm air betrays me
Leaves me alone with your empty, sleepless eyes
I’m shot down with the pain I never wished to believe
When the last word I could muster was “goodbye”
Gravity tugs at the last of my strength
Leading me back to the deathly grasp of blue
A place I can now call home
An eternity where I will fall alone.
