ExpectedA Chapter by Abigail MuddimanA One Shot“What is it that you want from me?” “I--“ I started, unconsciously poking a ten dollar “luck
bringing” cactus that kept my eyes and mind focused. Anxiety danced out of my
fingertips as cute little symbols bounced from the pricks beneath the glass. “I
want you back.” “Look--“ “No, listen, please. I want the you I could go to movies
with when I didn’t want to go alone and the you I could tell anything to. The
you that knew when I was lying and would try to get me to open up but would
never pressure me or diminish what I felt. The you that knew there was always
something more to me than what I would say, who only say me as positive. I don’t
need you in my life, God knows you’ll leave me behind without a second thought,
but I want you. You. Not us, not we, you.” I glanced up, scared to see your
clouded eyes staring at me, but swallowing my fear anyway. “I just want you
back.” And, like so many other times, silence as your only
response. © 2017 Abigail Muddiman |
