Notes to SelfA Poem by Abigail Muddimanc. Feb 2015Being little is to be fierce. It’s okay to stand up for your beliefs If someone else is trying to suppress them. Be strong. Be resilient. Be you. Don’t let someone else tell you how to live your life. You may be an adult, You may have a boss Or a parent Or a coworker Who thinks they can transform you Into a better, more responsible person. Be responsible But be fun. Play that pokemon game, It’ll make you relate to kids more. Listen to that rap song Even if your coworkers think you’re a little too old. Hold onto your childhood And bring it with you everywhere you go Like that yo-yo you kept in your backpack when you were in
high school. Walk everywhere with the confidence you had When you walked across that stage at graduation In heels that your father said were too tall for someone
like you. Show him the heels were meant to make your stature Stand as tall as your personality. Work with the same conviction, That same loud pride, That same addicting drive That you have always dug out of you core. Remember The little things Because those will always help you find your way when you
are lost And you will get lost, But you have worked your way out of the woods countless
times already And you know there is nothing that can stop you When you keep pushing forward. Remember Animals are people too. Remember Jerks are people too. Remember Hurting someone else as pay back doesn’t make it right. Remember how it felt to be five. To have your bleach blonde locks tied up in pigtails Pulled tightly to keep distractions out of your face. Live like that girl whose eyes were always open to insane
possibilities And whose ears welcomed the sound of the pounding summer
rain. Remember to laugh that high pitched laugh And to snort when the time calls for it. Remember to be happy. Remember you’re here for a reason. Remember to love like there’s no tomorrow And dream as if your wildest fantasies could come true. Remember Everything will be okay. © 2016 Abigail Muddiman |
