anyway

anyway

A Poem by a.s. mcvicker

anyway
what was tonight anyway?
another bar
another drink or two
or too many
another sad attempt to impress
someone who i don’t even know
some nice face across the bar

what am i trying to prove anyway?
that i can hook ‘em and catch ‘em
just like the rest of ‘em
i don’t even want that
i am above that

i spout out feminist theories
and claim that i don’t need
some man all up in my business
but i still straighten out my curls
and put on that certain pair of jeans
choose my perfume based on his mood

and what does that make me anyway?
poser
fake
needy
human

Wow,....such beautiful honesty here.

"i spout out feminist theories
and claim that i don’t need
some man all up in my business"

The above stanza is quite telling when paired with the one that follows.

It is interesting how we poise ourselves, with our platform and our perspectives.
Then we discover, through our own evolving self-awareness or by being called out by an observer, that what we thought was our "poise" behind the veil is, in truth, our "pose".

You have concisely expressed what is definetly an universal human irony.
