This is how I'm feeling today...

 

Dear You,

 

We’re no longer together

Yet the feelings still remain

On special days like this

The tears are bound to rain

 

Not a single day goes by

When I do not think of you

But a birthday is an occasion

When I don’t know what to do

 

If we were still together

I would’ve sent your way

A birthday present and a card

To brighten up your day

 

That's no longer possible

For I’m a ghost from the past

But I will love you and wish for you

For as many years as I will last

You know the most amazing thing about being in love is, not matter how far or how close you are from the one whom you love...you always care and wish the same way for them, each and every time.
Yet the pain of a heartbreak is so excessive that it can't be compared by any other pain of this world but occurrence of these special occasions always exacerbate that pain...
As a reader, I can sense that helpless feeling in your words that even though it's his birthday and you want to brighten up his day with a card or a gift but you just can't �isn't it ironic...
This is totally a free flow form of poetry and thus flowed very well but the closing lines really forced me to feel that pain!

For as many years as I will last - I really loved these lines a lot, specially the second line....which has been so beautifully written.

Indeed it is a great and purely a sensitive and beautiful piece of writing... :)

Days like these are so painful, wishing the day would just come and go. Some days are so much harder than others. It is difficult because every day they are in your thoughts, but there are those days when they are with you at every step, breaking your heart. I wish you peace, you deserve it.

It certainly lingers ... doesn't it! It almost seems to stalk us. We are either consumed by it, or we take it close and keep it tight to us where it can't hurt us.

Oh, I hear the pain in this and yes the last stanza really is so painfully heartbreaking. When you have these feelings and occasions come along, they bring those feelings even more to the surface and it is so hard. A very touching and heartfelt, though, painful piece. Beautifully expressed!!!
