Star Light

Star Light

A Poem by Nichole Cosgrove

have you ever stopped and just looked?

Have you ever stopped and just listened?

Can you hear that?

There beyond the noise of the city?

Beyond the honki9ng

Beyond the yelling and crying

Beyond the last rattling breath of death

Beyond the first sigh of a new birth

Can you hear it?

Can you see it?

The brightness of the stars

That's what that noise is

The song of the ancients

The life of new power

Not enough has it been appreciated

Not often enough has a mother stopped and looked to the stars

Above the chaos of everday life

There is a peace

That only those who finally sleep can reach

A peace that can be appreciated

A peace that can be enjoyed for what it's meant

To many forget to allow themselves peace

Thinking of only the meetings and appointments of tomorrow

Just stop sometime in your chaotic schedule

And listen.

Just listen.

And you may be able to hear the song for peace

That is forgotten after waking to a new day

And you'll hear the song called

Star Light

I love this whole poem... the calm steady beat and the way you pull the reader to the end.

And these closing lines amaze me.
"To many forget to allow themselves peace
Thinking of only the meetings and appointments of tomorrow
Just stop sometime in your chaotic schedule
And listen.
Just listen.
And you may be able to hear the song for peace
That is forgotten after waking to a new day
And you'll hear the song called
Star Light"
