The Costume Shop

The Costume Shop

A Poem by Amindy

It's night after the last matinee;
The set struck, all the props put away
On the shelves. The last member of the cast
Leaves the shop and takes one last
Glance to make sure all the lights are out.

The door locks with a final click;
Then, a mysterious glow appears upon the brick-
A faint blue-green ray of light
Bathes the characters as they come to life
And begin to walk about.

The sewing room becomes a dance floor;
Each woman grabs her dress from the drawer
And begins to swing. Dolly arrives from Harmonia Gardens
Wearing her black velvet from "way back when"
And Carmen Miranda starts a conga line.

Audrey Two sings a song in deep bass;
Tony and Maria waltz with remarkable grace.
Alice sits down to a game of chess
And Dorothy, in her blue gingham dress,
Clicks her heels three times.

Then the door is thrown open wide
And an actress walks casually inside.
She's forgotten her car keys
Over by the cardboard trees;
She grabs them and heads for the door.

But wait! What was that sound?
She stops and looks all around.
She's sure she saw something stir
And looks to the left and right of her-
But there's only dresses, strewn across the floor.

A very nice write. Imaginative and fresh.
Nice use of rhyme and rhythm. This is the kind of poetry that I, personally, favor.
Great job.
