A Chapter by Lyn Anderson
"

sometimes we remember even when we wish we didn't

"

Laughter

Laughter suspended

in my mind

like raindrops held

on leaves -

The branches waiting

for a breeze

to relieve them

of their burden.

Memories glisten

in the summer sun.

I remember how it felt

to be happy

when he could still

make me smile …

an epiphany at the back of the cupboard

                                      A tiny detail -

                                      a hairline crack

                                      in the cup

                                      he gave me.

                                      Had I noticed then

                                      would I still have drunk

                                      the poison

                                      he served me?

Golden rod

He planted

his seed

in my garden.

Beautiful,

deceptive,

full of pain.

Suffocating me,

making it

hard to breathe.

Scratch my eyes

out at his infernal

itching lies.

He looked like a flower.

but was nothing more

than a weed.

                                           Lip Service

He provided the best lip service.

Counterfeit vows not worth the paper

                                            on which they were printed.

                                            "I love you" isn't anything

if it's just smoke and ink.

Author's Note

Lyn Anderson
some people don't like it when I group poems together. I do it for three reasons - 1 - it seems ridiculous to post 6 or 8 poems back to back as separate pieces. 2 - I did think of them all in a group, one after the other. 3 - I think they work together, as well as separate, and can be taken as either by the reader. I read your explanation about grouping the poems together. I see no reason to explain either your work or your format. The excellent work needs no further comment. All it requires is a reader.

This reader enjoyed them all and felt the strong connection between them.
