Too painful to separate

Too painful to separate

A Chapter by Lyn Anderson
"

There were three

"

Roadside crosses mark the spaces

Where someone's someone breathed their last

The crosses in my head dot places and faces

Of all the someones who left this world too fast

Each scar digs a little deeper,

Than the cuts of the one before,

But girlie, your cross, it's a keeper --

A rope, a tree, and nothing more.

...This time of year

Will always be

Yours.

The melancholy butterflies

Touch the traces

Of where you were

And where

You would have been

There's not a summer

I don't see them

And still I wonder

Why?

Sisters

Joined in

Unity

A trinity

Lost to infinity

Before they even

Knew -

Only one

Left standing

To share

The burden

Of their mother's

Pain.

The title has a double meaning for me. I cannot bear the thought of the separation of either the poems or the sisters ... take it as you wish.

It is indeed too separate the pain ..I lost one of my brothers way too early..I think part of us goes with them..very poignant piece so deeply expressed

Thank you for the thoughts. Friends and family always harder when sudden and young
family loss is so difficult...this poem for me....goes in the direction of reminding me of a few very very close friends who died so young...and yet they have grown with me over the years as if they are still somehow, here!
i felt this on a few different levels...
and mixed feelings of sadness but joy in the memories of them.

That is how it is for me as well. Thank you for understanding
Such loss in your lines Lyn. I see these roadside memorials frequently on my travels and always pause to reflect on the lives lost and the bereaved. As for anniversaries, they come and go but the loss of siblings remains raw in my opinion. I have three siblings, but the one that I have lost can eat me up. Poignant writing. Beautiful and poignant poetry.

Thank you so much. My own sister is lost to me for very other reasons. But the sharpness of the part.. read more
Perfectly captured moments of loss Lyn, that play over and over again.
When I'm on my travels, or hiking up north, I see these tributes and a lot of cairns built to remember those lost in traffic accidents. They are a very sombre sight. Kids are taught early that they aren't for climbing on. I misunderstood my mum and was forever afraid of them, as I thought the people were buried under them. Or maybe that was her point.
Anniversaries of a loss never get easier, they still creep up and surprise us.
Your words here are a beautiful tribute, and memory.

Thank you so much. I trauma reminds us of traumas past. We're all connected in grief
This is so sad. It automatically sparked the deaths of the man who killed his family, the missing girl who was found dead today, the numerous car accident that left families grieving, recent suicides of people I knew...

The death of someone young too soon is the saddest of all.
