happy family dreams

happy family dreams

A Chapter by Lyn Anderson
"

for Margie, again http://www.writerscafe.org/barleygirl

"
Don't go chasing waterfalls
or happy family dreams
that aren't
meant to be.

We can wish
in wells or on stars
but none of that
will get us very far ...

Photos flashed
smiling faces
that never
reach the eyes

Hello/goodbye hugs
that feel more
like spiders
and lies ...

There is no sense spending
your life wondering
what could have been
such things
have long since passed
into the land of never was.

Yes. I am not a huge fan of pics of me either, especially when I think of the story behind it
Given up chasing rainbows - they melted before I reached them

Family sent pics of smiling faces > Mum in wheelchair BIL standing whit great big smile holding the chair to push
What lies the pictures show
Came to stay Wife using stick to walk - they go too fast - "She must keep up, there's nothing wrong - its all in the mind
Emails talked of large house swimming pool - Google Earth showed a two bed bungalow no garden no drive or garage

Our old pics are babes dated 1907; WWII; in Egypt Italy; sailors war time wedding
The people are just memories

We dream sometimes what could have been > If only------- this or that whatever

It is often hard to reconcile the expected norm with our own realities.

I concur.......... N
Someone commented on family photo I used for "Brothers", saying telltale sign is in the eyes . . . as you artfully point out in this poem. Your poem also reminds me of how I would feel anticipation before family events, but then at the actual event, I looked forward to being home afterwards so I could de-compress from the stress I felt. All this is captured perfectly in your poem. It felt like severe withdrawals at the time, but now I see I never could've gotten to this point in my healing, had I stayed mired in the family junk! *sigh!* Thanks for sharing your razor-sharp observations & for giving me a little shout-out! *smile* Fondly, Margie
