Permanently shut

Permanently shut

A Chapter by Lyn Anderson
"

sometimes a friend isn't a friend after all

"

Nobody but you

Needs to understand,

There was once a time,

I needed your hand.

But I have moved on now

To someone new,

I am better off with him,

And I can't have you.

This isn't something

That is easy to say,

But people really do change,

At the end of the day.

All those years ago I said,

From each we only

Take what we need,

You took your pound of flesh,

And it made me bleed.

This love I've forged,

The happiness I've earned,

And you said

You wanted me to get,

Yet here you are,

Waiting in the wings,

The biggest threat --

I must continue on,

Without you my friend,

The door you closed

Must never be

Opened again.

If you are out there, you may see this, but you likely won't understand.
Love is not always the romantic kind, and sometimes these non-romantic
loves can hurt us just as much or more ...

I am literally covered with goose bumps, I relate to this message SOOOOO STRONGLY!!!! Oh you've put it so beautifully, with firmness, but not harshness. This is the song of my life. Sometimes people have relationships & friends for life. But not me. It's always been a series of growth experiences, which require moving on, just as you've explained with so much heart in this message (((HUGS)))

I understand these words KL, and the emotions and disappoints behind them... not just because I too have felt them, but it is only when the chips are down and the times get a bit rough do we know, really know who are friends are... and it is not easy to find out that someone we thought our friend abandons us instead... and worse, becomes a "threat, waiting in the wings"... ouch!

perhaps I have misread, and for different reasons, I think we both are doing some mourning lately... and "continuing on" is a necessity... I like how you wrote, straight forward, not in snippet form or as sonnet, just each line firm and emotion flowing...
