fair game

fair game

A Chapter by Lyn Anderson
"

something a little birdie might have said to me

"
the content of this poem is purely fictitious any resemblance to real events is purely coincidental and likely due to a guilty conscience.

Feeling a little
wobbly
up there,
on that high horse?
It's a little
rickety,
isn't it?

family is fair game
your words, not mine.

family has always been
fair game for you.
steal a bill from your momma
your little sis
won't miss
her paper money,
will she?

fast forward a few years,
your girlfriend wonders
why cash
always disappears,
but never connects
Christmas money
lost on a bet

became
bank accounts
and credit cards,
rent money
and cashing income
behind the back ...
it was never enough.

family is fair game,
your words, not mine.

but I am not your family
anymore.

now you take from what
is yours
a child, unsuspecting,
thinking you will do
what is right
a new low -- cookie money
where did it go?

family is fair game
didn't you know?

I totally get this message. In my family, there were those that always "borrowed" money, but never paid it back, as if it wasn't an issue, becuz it's family, after all. Your caustic seething is coming thru loud & clear to me in the resentment that can be caused by such disrespect. I think borrowing money from family can be the undoing of these relationships.

This is reflecting light on a subject that we typically think is not true because we think family should not do things to each other. I recently took a biopsychology class and it was shocking to learn that the majority of psychological disorders, resentments and emotional pains are trigger by the family environment. Thank you for writing this piece on this touchy subject.

This poem has a point. Some people, it seems, think they can do things to family and have no repercussions.

Of course, this is purely fictitious and no animals were harmed in the making of this poem...however, a person who steals from a child is the lowest of the low if you ask me. Well expressed, KL. Lydi**
