butterfly kisses

she reminded me of you -- revised for clarity's sake

a butterfly,
kissing up
against the pane.
"it must mean something,"
the handsome stranger said,
implying that somehow
this delicate creature
was there for me.

pretty smooth.
that was where
the subtle ended,
and he looked me
right in the eye.
he must be flirting.

but the butterfly
reminded me
of how you randomly
stop to kiss my nose
in the middle.

and I shooed her
out the window,
without returning
his dazzling smile.

I like the little flirty moment. It's sweet. A kiss on the nose...
It's a very loving and tender action. This is sweet. There's a moment here where she feels unsure or has a dark cloud pass through but overall, it's sweet and he seems like a very kind and loving man.

I think this is interesting. A poem I thought was very straight forward turned out not to be. So, the speaker is being flirted with -- but the butterfly reminds her of the love that she does not want to betray. Apparently not straight forward at all. I enjoy seeing my work from others' perspectives.

yeah, my use of him and you can be confusing, I agree, only in mine it is crystal clear. It's why I wrote the poem "him to you" a few pages ago. the flirt was pretty smooth, though, I have to say, most men aren't so sophisticated in their approach.

let me set the scene. A woman is in alone with a man who is flirting with her. The person flirting with her is not the man she loves. The butterfly reminds her that she is to remain loyal to the man she loves.
