a drastically overblown misinterpretation. because men and women really reside on different planets, and I am somewhere in between.

"
what's up darlin?
what'd you think I'd do?
Call a decorator
when you're out of town?
hire a preacher
to take you down?
slap that ring on
while we linger,
accost your poor
unsuspecting finger?
same old been there done that?
what makes you think I want all that?
not saying never,
but, damn baby,
"forever is a mighty long time"*
I just want a little company
it's very far from here to there
and where we might someday be.
besides, what the hell would I wear
for dress number three?

Open and honest words. I think the wariness of third time forever is wise, when you so eloquently say that forever is a long time and let's just go for now. A little company is good :)

Thanks. It's funny, even the smartest man still thinks that's all a woman wants.

This little rant is a nice balance between being elusive, yet also revealing enuf details to help us guess what's up with the message. Never having been married for almost-60 years, I can relate to quite a bit of this, and yet, I can't relate at all to it, at the same time! I love contrasts like that. Good job crafting this enigmatic revelation.

blue jeans and T shirts ma'am! :) ... i like the way you raise this marvelous question and discussion .. using all those ?s worked well says i! i like the short chopping lines (like fighters use when on the inside) i believe the significance of saying "i do" needs only that ...i do love you ..i do not intend to desert you in bad or troubled times ...but the reality of relationships ending can not be denied ... and the only forever we have in anything is the "now" ... finding a focus in the "now" that brings gratitude and humility and stronger selflessness can go a long way in our lives ... love your poem .. especially enjoy the sarcasm in the closing two lines ..be "now" my friend!! :)

"I just want little company" Amen to that. Some men just want or read too much into relationships or actions, words etc. I've frequently experienced this...unnerving attitude at times...

um yes, on this...third time wasn't a charm, a 4th would be severe harm, so i am content just to spend some time...Awhile sounds good at this point.

Well in this case, he just imagines that's what I might want ...:)
Mars and Venus... different worlds... that's too easy an explanation for what goes on between women and men KL... I know it may not seem like a good things most times, but that we live on the same planet makes it possible to actually communicate and too get things right... and believe me, you do not ever want to wish you were a man or to develop the attitudes of a man as it is pretty stupid down here most times... lol

so "darlin' " all I got to say is I got what I expected.. another wonderful poem from KL, may she always love being a woman and getting the lovin' she deserves... now that would be a great color...
