steal my sunshine

steal my sunshine

A Chapter by Lyn Anderson
"

one of his favourite songs -- title from the song of the same name by Len

"
a nuclear winter
unnatural,
insidious,
and tainted,
you whispered upon me
trying to steal my light;
there was no oxygen
in the air around you
and the bomb shelter
I built
around my heart
was not strong enough
to keep your poison
from seeping in.
I wandered aimlessly,
growing ever dim
until the sun you stole,
I took back
and gave
to him.

It's a difficult thing to get back once it's been stolen and then takes some time to shine bright and hot again.
Like this one a lot, also like the song.

I like the use of the post apocalyptic scary metaphors....it gave the poem real darkness. 'Cept at the end. I can certainly relate to the bomb shelter analogy. Nice that you have some sun in your life now.
