sleepy joe

sleepy joe

A Chapter by Lyn Anderson
"

what moms are meant for

"
in the middle of the night
she wakes me
"mama, help me, I have a sleepy joe."
I don't correct her, anymore.
I get out the bean bag,
and massage the knot out
of her calf.
"why would they call it a charlie horse?"
she asked one time,
and I really didn't
know what to say.
"never mind," I said,
"let's get rid of that sleepy joe."
because if there's
one thing
a mom should know
it's how to take
the pain away.

This is so lovely KL, you're a wonderful mom.
When you're so good at it though the expectations become pretty high and you never want to let them down.

I try to be. And I work hard at it every day.

It's hard work, that's for sure. But rewarding. You're amazing.
So sweet...the times between mother and child are very special. When a child thinks his or her mommy can work miracles and make the pain go away with a kiss or a stroke, well, that mommy becomes a super hero. May you always rid your children of sleepy joes and may they always look at you as their hero. A warm and tender write. Lydi**

Thank you very much for your thoughts and your review.
Bless her little heart! I have had one Charlie Horse in my whole life, and it hurt like a real mean, ugly mother! I had spent the day at the beach, walking nearly ten miles; and my friend who had gone with me stayed the night. We both had to be at work at 9am the next morning. Since we got back from the beach at 1am, I told her we'd just sleep in my bed because I didn't feel like setting up the futon for her to sleep on. I woke up from a dead sleep with that darn Charlie Horse, not knowing what it was. I nearly gave her a heart attack when I let out this blood-curdling scream and pummeled the bed with my fist. She kept trying to grab my leg to straighten it out and massage it. LOL! That was a rude awakening and an even ruder introduction to Mr. Charlie Horse. I've never been kicked by a horse, but it certainly felt like it.

Thank you for being such a kind and loving mother. I always appreciate that.
