YOU are

YOU are

A Chapter by Lyn Anderson
"

No, this is not about THE EX -- but a long time ago love

"
my security blanket

Do you have a secret box of memories?
gifts and poems, locked somewhere tight?
every once in a while I take them out,
to keep me warm at night.

funny, she never sent me a thank you card

for a moment
when I first open my eyes
you are there.
that crooked smile,
on your perfect face.

but she has you now.
and there's not but me
to thank for her blessings
and me to blame for my mistakes.

selfishly yours

All the words I long to say
all the things I regret to this day,
must remain with me.
to open them up is me just being selfish,
wishing and hoping, you feel them too.

you are

my biggest
should have
stayed,

my only

shouldn't have
gone.

all the words said
and the ones
I never did.

the pain of regret
is never
so sharp

as it is
when it
comes

to you.

Hi, KL... I was reading these little beauties and realized that they almost seem to be written at different times and then... collected into a little four square box of memories! Maybe the were, but regardless each one speaks to me, especially the last lines of the ending poem...

"the pain of regret
is never
so sharp

as it is
when it
comes

to you."

This is just heart piercing and wise and well written... they punctuate your quartet just perfectly. Great work!

ohh the devil is in ones hindsight for sure .. but those admissions and regrets do teach a mighty lesson for something up ahead... just around the bend! ;)
and i enjoyed listening to the song .. not much of a country fan but that was just fine :)
your poem is better however

Dear friend, you question many things in this poem. I would say thank you to old kind lovers. Love is hard. We forget the good days when overcome by the bad days. You told a complete story of love in the words. Thank you for sharing your excellent poetry and thoughts.

Thank you very much, that means a lot, given the calibre of your romantic tomes.

You are welcome my friend.
What famous wordsmith once said, ' Better to have loved and lost, than never to have loved at all ' ? And I agree !

Profoundly enchanting indeed !

Nice to see you! And thank you!
I think it is human to regret a lost love. We all have regrets...(or most of us, anyway...) I loved this, KL. Your heart is showing with honesty and warmth. A beautfiul, but sad, tribute. Thank you for sharing it with us...:)

i have to tell you i feel very much like this about my first girlfriend, first love...

but she is happy, and i am happy for her...she has been with the same guy since she asked me to her prom and i couldn't go...she went with him and they are still married now...
so some regrets yes!

but life has been interesting since...and i wouldn't really change it, even if i could.

Filled with might have beens and regrets....and so damned honest. It's easy to beat yourself up for the past...and to remember only the good points of the one who got away. It is, however, a futile pursuit. We can not rewind life....if only we could. Excellent expression of emotion here, KL. Lydi**

Here we have yet another delightful micro anthology of words that are so very skillfully slung across and down the page, it makes me want to dump the pen and notebook I have been discreetly carrying halfway across Europe, Africa and Asia this last few months.

KLG's style and versatility whilst not quite unique in the great scheme of things, is a sufficiently rare gift that one might be forgiven for breaking several moral codes and trying to consign her to a particular paradigm or literary school...............

Excellent song choice KL, that one has special meaning for me.
The "selfishly yours" stanza speaks to me, been there, done that, bought the tear stained tee shirt.
Another excellent journey.
