A Chapter by Lyn Anderson
"

emptiness of cyber space

"

Pride goeth or cometh before a fall?

the order doesn't matter

only the meaning --

I have too much pride

to slum in this dump

anymore.

I will not stand before you in judgment

I am more than the sum

of my various anatomical parts

plump and pink and smiling

wet and vulnerable

on the outside.

you do not like me

do not flirt with me

do not friend me

not here,

in this desolate space.

I, unlike you,

am not an empty vase

Author's Note

Lyn Anderson
Cyber space is lonely, get out and shake a hand, pick up a girl in a bar. Just saying ...
BTW this is no commentary on my friends here. Just the whole deal in general.

I like you. I agree with your thoughts. If I don't like someone work. I don't comment. I had some crazy fellow writers. Called me crazy and next day. Tell me I'm alright. A wild mix of people. I have a hard shell. Time in the Army. Hard to offend me. Good to read your work. Thank you dear poet for sharing your excellent poetry.

It is the truth.

Interesting take. This is about the Internet phenomenon in general and the creepy sites out there.

Oh okay… gotcha :)
Chuckling here... we are such socially imperceptive beings... sigh.

Yes, not all of us though. :)
We have all done it as it is so easy to read someone's writing and start a dialogue and then find oneself in deeper in cyber-space than is perhaps real. I have had several lovely experiences and have some lovely people in cyber space I care about (men and women). Occasionally you come upon the crazies but to blame cyber space is naive as they exist in our neighbourhoods and in our workplaces and even in our beds.

Me too. A pity people in here thought it fun to drive her away.

Who was responsible? PM me.
Such honest truth. Some people are lonely and latch on to others in the cyber world.
I've made some great friends here but it's important to maintain a healthy balance in life vs hiding behind some persona forever.

Thank you. I haven't been here much.
I think people mistake self-respect for pride. It's okay to respect yourself enough not to suffer fools and trolls. Fools and trolls expect you to keep taking their crap and will read your strength as unbecoming pride because they are incapable of recognizing their own poison.

You are right, they mistake it for arrogance, or choose to see it that way.

They choose to see it that way because they refuse to see their own arrogant narrow mindedness.
wonderful! You told someone off with class. "Respect yourself" as the old song says! The internet makes for strange relationships, no doubt. We have to draw the line to protect ourselves. I liked the power behind your words in this write. Lydi**

Thanks for stopping in again and reviewing my work.
Had me scared there for a minute, KL... thought we had lost another distinctive voice... You are right , of course, life is not found here in cyberspace. It can augment and enhance it, but it is never a fitting substitute for real human contact.

Even here, where real ideas and emotions, and words can be shared it can often degenerate into simple literary mutual masturbation. I think I'll go pick some flowers now and fill my un-cyber vase... Wise words, KL... thank you for saying them!

I hear you on the balancing thing... so glad you'll still be out here in the ether :)
i really like this poem, yes, cyberspace is a lonely place...i want to hold a real hand, look someone in the eye, face to face....then there is truth.
