dreams of you

dreams of you

A Chapter by Lyn Anderson
"

ah, it happens, what can I say

"
dreamed a dream
car stuck, mud flying,
something just behind
a sense of urgency --

i have to go

expired food,
and mould crawling,
trying to get a foothold
in the recesses of my mind --

i have to move

the bats in the closet
know where to find me
and the rats run over my feet
struggling to break free --

i cannot breathe

sun in window,
daughter's hand clutches mine
absently tossing
dog is whining.

relief

it is only morning,
and I am back.
where you are gone
and I am me.

Author's Note

Lyn Anderson
The change from little i to capital is intentional.
The reasons for this song are intensely personal
and would make sense only to a few
