Excuse me if I tripped over your whatever

Excuse me if I tripped over your whatever

A Chapter by Lyn Anderson
"

just read it and see

"
Excuse me if I tripped over your whatever
on the way to your bed.

You heard me.
I didn't mean to offend you.

But when you expend so much effort
pretending you don't really care

sometimes I think
you don't.

I really connected with this poem. I know someone who is always trying so hard to make it a point for everyone to know he doesn't care. At first I thought he was just rude. Then I learned more about him and figured out that he was simply trying to pretend he didn't care to hide the fact he really did care, about everything really. He cared so much it hurt.

This reminded me of him, it is something he'd appreciate (After expressing how much he 'sincerely' could care less for poetry). The last two lines have to be my personal favorite however.

Thank you for your thoughtful and accurate review.
The more I read this the more I laughed. I even told myself off and insisted in reading it properly but I just couldn't take the image of you tripping over, let's not even mention the "whatever". Then it dwell on me whatever is not a very commited word and since I love words I hardly ever use it. Then I even made the connection to caring as if you do care nothing is just "whatever" yet at times it doesn't show!
Where are you? I get told quite often. I guess is a similar thing. I will put my whatevers away right now so no one trips on them.

Thank you

Yes, I despise the word as well, but it fits here, thanks for noticing.:)
oh yes, perfect.
sometimes we go overboard trying to not show emotions...unwilling to get hurt...and it can often be taken as..."wow, you really don't give a hoot, do you?"

So very true, and then that person can get hurt because of it. Thank you.
