the cold

the cold

A Chapter by Lyn Anderson
"

just what it sounds like

"
the cold
doesn't knock.
it isn't polite.
it just barges in.

shove over,
it says,
let me enter
your bones,

scrape your
lungs,
lick the tip
of your nose,

burn the tender
bits of your ear,
freeze your fingers,
and lap at your toes.

you know
how I feel
about the
cold,

and you
(so kindly)
invited
me in.

"No thank you," I said.
and If you weren't
sure before,
you are now.

Lol. KL have you ever experienced an Ottawa winter? They made southern Ontario winters feel like posers. I know this, from 5 years, I live there, as an university student, at Carleton University. Never again, will I live there, if I can help it.

That was cold KL, bitter cold. I can only imagine the frozen stare that the invitation met up with. I need a scarf now.
