the cold

the cold

A Chapter by Lyn Anderson
"

just what it sounds like

"
the cold
doesn't knock.
it isn't polite.
it just barges in.

shove over,
it says,
let me enter
your bones,

scrape your
lungs,
lick the tip
of your nose,

burn the tender
bits of your ear,
freeze your fingers,
and lap at your toes.

you know
how I feel
about the
cold,

and you
(so kindly)
invited
me in.

"No thank you," I said.
and If you weren't
sure before,
you are now.

Yesterday and today are ridiculously cold. And we got 30cm of snow!
Brrr. It's hard to adjust. Unlike you, I gain a size in the winter.

I should take you mountain biking, you don't need a gym. Trust me. :)
You left out shriveled testicles, but you would. Worst thing though is the small of the back when that goes the whole shebang comes tumbling down.

Yes, that is miserable. Can't speak for the first thing.:)
I used to love the cold. Now I have a love/hate thing with it, and I am sliding into a pure hate relationship.
It would appear you got there at a faster rate than I.
You got your message(s) across well here.

AWW. It's just I am more active than most in the winter. It is my busy time.

Its Spring and Summer, for me.
Coldness in terms of distance. In terms of no relating. In terms of lack of interest. So for those who actually care about one another with warmth of heart this cold is unnapealing. Burn the tender bit of your ear. I remember that feeling. Haven't had it in a long time... But as for having a relationship were one of the participant is cold.

No thankyou

I really hate the cold, physically. But I prefer it to returning to hell.:)

that nasty visitor was really rude all those years i lived near chicago...with that biting, constant wind.

Yes, most definitely.
A cold heart is worse than any winter's night... may that heart crack and shatter into thousands of pieces... here, KL, sit by the fire in you poem, warm those fingers and toes and know that no-one can hurt you again... loved the flow of these words all the way through to the No Thank You...

You would rather brave the cold thgan give him the satisfaction of feeling benevolent. Another powerful depiction of an encounter.
