dog food for breakast

dog food for breakast

A Chapter by Lyn Anderson
"

on some news

"
children in India eating from garbage dumps,
happily scrounging through toxins to make a buck,

a suburban housewife writes about taking her lumps,
a dog food diet to lose 2 pounds; oh what luck,

who need worry about a vaccine for Ebola,
when there's a store promotion on Cherry Cola?

probe launch to a comet to see what we can see,
history dwarfed by a nerd who can't dress properly.

spend a morning chatting with unlimited text,
PETA applies to build a monument for turkeys.

hide in a bomb shelter and hope you are not next,
please stop making martyrs out of others' babies ...

only 39 days shopping days left till Christmas.

What really killed me is how that became the focus, not the science.

Exactly...
It is a polarized world indeed and with different absurd priorities of the rich vs. the poor. I have read where few people control the majority of the wealth in the world while all others go hungry or suffer all sorts of diseases. Not against the rich but against the stingy and humane of them. Excellent...:)........................

Certainly. Thank you, I just hate it when real news is drowned out by chatter.

Your poem, brilliant by the way, asks the reader to find the balance between caring for the world and enjoying it. What is the balance … and with so much suffering is anyone entitled to it? I think yes … because otherwise it is life toiled and not lived. That said … Ebola vaccine and children with full stomachs of food and not garbage … some priority. I think.

Well, this is an eclectic mixture of items. It puts the paltry worries of normal Americans to shame, when we hear of the true barren poverty in Indonesia and India. Children living in garbage dumps are scrounging for food. And the truly tragic and downright disgusting news of people who rush out on Black Friday after Thanksgiving, crowding stores and trampling people in the rush to get into Walmarts and Best Buys and Targets for another television or Ipad. The materialism is sickness in this country. If they spent even 1/3 of their attention caring for other humans and donating food and time at the soup kitchens, this world would be a better place.

It is amazing what people focus on and what they ignore. I've come to loathe watching the news as well as some of the celeb shows. Solid write. Speaks volumes and doesn't hold back

Loving this right here it is awake to the realities of political imagination. This contradictions expressed here are the ones we are supposed to smile and just take? No way ! Daily efforts can be guided in many different ways so that we can contribute towards having less of this sensless manipulations. Social conciousnes is an obligation.

Great writing.

It is. That's why I avoid this stupidity at all costs.
The world is a crazy place and the harshness of other countries don't seem real some some who live in the USA. Perspectives can differ greatly and some will never know what a true struggle is.

Absolutely. Distorted realities.
I have essentially given up on news other than the local evening news to see what is happening in my city. The rest is spun so much, and the celebrity gossip seems to be more important than the events unfolding in the world that could have serious repercussions for us.
Well laid out here KL.

Yes, I heartily agree. Thank you.
Media got everything to offer . All in the name of intertainment and distractions .

Yes, everything but the important things.
Wow, KL, I cannot tell you how this touched my heart, we tend to take our lives for granted and tend to worry about things that are not really 'that' important... there are many things a lot more important out in the world, we shouldn't take family or life for granted - we're lucky.
