Tea for one

Tea for one

A Chapter by Lyn Anderson
"

tea and cookies

"
she wrapped your invitation
with love and care
she was so excited for
both her parents to be there.

you enter.
you sit.
a sullen presence
at the back of the room.

we dance a silly dance.
everyone but you.
it's hard not to notice
the chill of your stare.

she practiced all week
to serve us tea and cookies
but you didn't want to stay.
I take my cup with a smile.

I shouldn't be surprised
and neither should she.
I try not to be disappointed.
and quietly drink my tea.

Thank you, I have a lot of that in my life, and will for a while.
Sad moment. One I share, but more of the simple no show.

All you can do.
You will shield her as long as you can. Hopefully when she learns the truth she will be older and more able to handle it. It is sad that she will have to handle it at all.

You are right, of course, and we soldier on.:)
There are moments in a child's life they will never get back. If we don't take the time to do the things that are important to them right now, they may never forgive us.
