I've always said

A Chapter by Lyn Anderson
"

a thought on a conversation with Noel, and some songs he sent me

"
I have always said
I will not stand in your way
if you find that someone
who is more than
what I ever can be.

There are things
I can never change
there are just some things
I cannot undo.

I have always said
I will let you go
my blessings in your heart
if you find the one
who can give you a fresh start

That doesn't mean
it won't hurt like hell
and that doesn't mean
it won't hurt you as well.

But sometimes,
some things
just cannot be
the way we want them.
closed wombs do not reopen.

four years too late
or ten years too early,
I met the one
who could have been

damn... this one hurts... I am a little emotional right now for other reasons, but this one hit me... it is gentle, straightforward, honest yet it creeps in and pulls that heart until it wants to cry... at least that is what it did to me... it makes the hopeless romantic in me want to push the two together... :(

That pleases me a great deal, as this song is getting steady play in my car. It says so much.

yep, this is the one that almost got me... so can feel the depth of emotion here.. grrrr@both of you.. read more
These 'ships passing in the night' poems always make me sad. Why does life have to be this way? Why can't the man step up and say, "The time is now. You are mine. Let do this already...and make it so." kind of barbarianesque, but you get the picture. But it never happens, and we are left with this gentle wish list of what might have been...just plain sad. Excellent writing, though. KLG, you know how to pull the heart strings and make them sing...even maudlin tunes.

It would seem so!
Seems like you and Noel inspire one another a lot… another powerfully emotional write… sometimes we have to let go of someone we love. It is unfortunate but it is best for our sanity when things just didn't work out like we wanted.

thanks so much, yes, Noel brings out the best in my writing, I think.
I am thinking of you writing this from a cocoon slit, the light breaks through the catacomb thatch work of old becoming new. wings color in declaration, of letting go in view of love coming home in return..excellent piece

thanks, I appreciate your stopping by.
I have always found it difficult to write a lyric, I always slide into poem mode and it ends there, so I salute you KL to produce such a lyric of such class and bittersweet beauty, well done :)

Thank you very much. It came naturally from the song prompt that Noel gave me.
Wow KL! (That would be all I would have to say, except WC wants a minimum of 25 characters) Just, wow.
Such depth of feeling, and hurt you have expressed.
Love the song, but you already know that, and why.
