heartburn

heartburn

A Chapter by Lyn Anderson
"

a transient passage through my mind

"
Legends.
Aztecs
on altars
chests open
hearts devoured
in vain
attempts to
what?

who knows?
an abstract
feeling.
an offering
to an unforgiving
deity.

when the man
who made
false promises
on an altar
of synthetic afterthoughts
eats your heart,
what satisfaction
does he get?

he thinks
he ate it all,
but he did not.
and now he
can live with
the heartburn ...

                        knowing I saved
                        the choicest cuts
                        for someone
                        new.

Thanks for the review, Baby. I love saying that, it sounds so sexy, lol.
Sounds like they need to do a sacrifice to the God of Pepcid. This was kind of dark but I liked it.

(soft chuckle)... ha.
Perfect revenge to go on and be better off for it.
I think I may be running low on Prilosec. ;)
To me this was a great satire of the matrimonial "alter".
We too often sacrifice our lives to some false expectation of love and live trapped in bad relationships because it would displease some idea of "god" if we simple let go and found a better life.
Yes, a promise should be forever and we are all better off when it is, but part of keeping this promise is how we act day by day and moment by moment. The vows are long ago broken before any infidelity ever occurs... It is a condition of the heart after all. Anyhow, deep subject. I better shut up already. ha. :)
Perfect poetic prodding!

A wise man once said forgive them for they know not what they do ... but their egos sure as hell get it... ego maniac should have to wear a shirt. A really great one here, KL.

Thank you so much, I appreciate it.
Heartburn… yes. They always claim to regret the pain they cause when "they" break your heart. If it hurts… let it. Let it burn. Take back the best of yourself and leave them the dross. Well penned.

You're welcome.
This was mega creative and well said... So done with the people who only know how to devour all the goodness people have to offer without giving two hoots about the individual. Pretenders take your voracious appetites elsewhere.

Thank you so much I am so pleased you liked this one
Lol! I love the way you conclude a good poem, KLG. This one is brilliant. I love how you develop and evolve a thought from Aztecs to one particular ugly individual. Beautiful sentiment and great metaphor!
