occult infection

occult infection

A Chapter by Lyn Anderson
"

a return to ill -- an occult infection is insidious, and one of which the carrier is mostly unaware.

"
It seeps
into the lamina
of my grey matter
oozing like pus
into the crevices,
blocking synapses
making false connections;
tricking neurons,
and flooding my body
with useless adrenaline.
fight or flight paralysis
that has no basis in fact.
the tiger does not have teeth.
the monster is not
behind the closet door.
and you cannot hurt me
anymore.

In this piece you mange to link the medical condition with the psychological harm caused by the actions of another. The metaphor is apt and poiwerful as it describes the insidious nature of such wearing down of the psyche.

I am glad you appreciate this one. Tough sell to a psychiatric expert, so I feel especially pleased .. read more
We control our minds, not the other way around. I have a fascination with the brain, reading different types of books on it. Great job!

Thanks so much, I appreciate it. Yes, we can rewire, with practice.
One of your strongest pieces in a while, not that every one of them isn't strong ;) But this one definitely got to me...false connections, useless adrenaline...these images just speak to me in a way, especially these days...I've lost friends that I thought would be mine forever, and this piece is like a soundtrack to that...you often end these works of despair on a note of defiant hope, which I appreciate...I think I need to be a little more defiant with people sometimes...nice work my friend.
