I set out

I set out

A Chapter by Lyn Anderson
"

a journey

"
I set out
in the morning
goal in head,
resting on legs
weary but determined
like my heart.

fall colours
bleed into my
consciousness
as the music drips into
my veins,
inflating my lungs with hope.

with each step
I grow
I rise above it
the thing we were
the pain that was
the anger ground out in puffs of dirt.

why do I do it?
because it is
my journey
one you didn't care about,
one in which you refused to take part.
it's mine ...

and with each step I run,
I gain back my heart.

A clever piece.
I love how you can pick small things such as a morning run and craft it into such a beautiful piece of poetry.
Thank you for sharing.

Your most welcome!
Running is one of my favorite things to do... crank up my ipod, and just take off... clears my head, clears my heart... the music speaks to my soul as I just let go and feel... let go of the worries, the stress, the pain, the fear, the doubt, the negative that plagues my mind and heart... this one reminds me of that...

Yes, me too. I took up running to escape, and that, I have.

amen! me too... me too...
Love the second stanza...I like how the negative thoughts lurk and threaten to overtake the journey, but you keep them at bay...not one of my best abilities...great piece.

I enjoyed the poem.
"why do I do it?
because it is
my journey
one you didn't care about,
one in which you refused to take part.
it's mine ..."
The above lines are true. Our life is our decision. No weakness in the excellent poetry.

You are welcome.
Having been a runner I can relate to this apart from the music bit. Never did like getting sweat on my earphones (just in case I get electrocuted lol!), Could touch the determination in this piece from both the moving on perspective and the sport perspective. I like to make it hard. No distractions, only pain and the challenge!

Thank you for popping in
Reading this I think bout how we can get so lost in being with someone we love who we are as an individual, it happened to me, when I got divorced I spent over a year finding myself… so your poem resonates with me.

It was my pleasure.
Run baby run... I think if that Sheryl crow song when I read this.
Got to pound something, might as well be the pavement.
Nicely done.

Thank you very much. This one is a lot happier than the one I just put up.:)
KLG, you wrote this with such beautiful sensitivity, finality, and determination. I love it! The pavement is the perfect catharsis for a broken heart and a body that needs a new beginning. Shoes can and will be replaced. Run them through, Baby! I'm so proud of you!

Thanks so much, I appreciate it.
Terrific sentiments: run toward something… be the journey… keep moving forward… keep reaching for hope. I like the themes here: reveling in the pleasure and hard won achievement of a good run and/or stepping out boldly to leave the past and pain behind on a journey of the soul to healing and hope.
