chewing

chewing

A Chapter by Lyn Anderson
"

some things lose their flavour more quickly than others.

"
I opened
the package
it was
not really the
kind I liked,
but I thought it would
suffice.

I began chewing.
over time
the taste became bitter,
turned over,
like a nut half rotten,
but too late
not to swallow.

Sometimes,
actions defy logic,
and my jaws kept working,
long after the sour taste
gave way to done,
and little pieces
began to break away.

Finally,
I gave up,
and spat it out,
leaving me to discover
a whole new world of flavour;
playing catch up --
I have a whole lot of chewing to do.

Sublime metaphor! Sometimes our taste buds become numb and things are just straight up nasty. Life's too short for that. The cat finally got the cream. R xo

That's awesome. Thanks for reviewing this one.
WONDERFUL metaphor, KL. Why do we allow ourselves to chew that rotten food for so long? Do we have so little self esteem that we think it is okay to not be happy or to put up with negativity? I often wonder. This is one of your best. Lydi**

Thank you so very much, I appreciate it.
Love, love, love this.
Brilliant metaphor. :)
Have some cake K.
( I really hope 'cake' is not slang for 'p***y' cat. I had to say cat because it's not a mature poem... Sorry)
Anyway you know what I mean. Have something that tastes good.

how about something fresh, and home grown, from a farm maybe? Thank you. I liked this one too.

Yes, lucky girl. :)
I think that sounds lovely.
Things get old and nasty after a while. Time to change things up a bit! Great write and definitely made me think about how things are going in my life and what may be time to "spit out". xo :)

Yes, exactly. Sometimes we just chew it cause it's there. Doesn't mean it's the right thing to do.:)
Great metaphor used in another hard hitting personal 'getting there' piece.

Thanks. I appreciate it.
An amusing little gum. It has a woody oaken flavor undoubtly acquired as it aged beneath the desk top.

Yes a fresh pack is nice.
sometimes we take way too long to spit out the bad stuff in our lives...we just keep chewing on a flavorless existence.
